We are excited to announce the Amazon KDD Cup 2023 competition, which focuses on developing multilingual recommendation systems to improve the personalisation and understanding of global trends and preferences. This competition aims to promote practical solutions that can benefit customers worldwide.
The Shopping Session Dataset is a large and multilingual dataset of user shopping sessions from Amazon. The dataset will be publicly released to the research community, and standard evaluation metrics will be used to assess the performance of the models.
The competition proposes three tasks that focus on predicting what a user will likely buy next based on their recent shopping history. Based on what they have already viewed, the first task is to predict which product a customer will most likely buy next for three languages with relatively more data in the train set: Japanese, English, and German. It will be released soon.
The second task is similar to the first, but the dataset includes French, Spanish, and Italian languages with limited training data. The third task is to generate the title of a product that a customer wants to buy next, where the product is not from the provided list.
The competition will use the Mean Reciprocal Rank (MRR) metric to measure success for Task 1 and Task 2, while Task 3 will be evaluated using bilingual evaluation understudy (BLEU). The data will be made available publicly to facilitate further research and improvement.
We encourage the AI and ML community to participate in this competition and develop innovative solutions for recommendation systems. So, mark your calendars, gather your team, and get ready to participate in the Amazon KDD Cup 2023 competition. We look forward to seeing your innovative solutions!
