Spotify Million Playlist Dataset Challenge access

Dear AIcrowd Team,

I hope this email finds you well.

I came across the Spotify Million Playlist Dataset Challenge on your platform:

I noticed that the dataset is currently marked as no longer downloadable. I am very interested in working with this dataset for research and experimentation purposes. Could you kindly advise if there is a way to gain access to it, or the necessary steps I should follow to obtain the data?

Thank you for your time and support. I appreciate the work you do in fostering the AI and ML community and look forward to your guidance.

Hi @brackly_murunga,

The Spotify Million Playlist Dataset is unfortunately no longer hosted or distributed directly through AIcrowd due to licensing restrictions from Spotify. :innocent:Access to the dataset was time-limited for the challenge and has since been discontinued. :upside_down_face:

That said, here are a few directions you can explore:

  1. Official Spotify Research Page – Spotify sometimes provides datasets for academic or research purposes. You can check their Spotify Research site or reach out to them directly to request access.
  2. Alternative Datasets – If your goal is music recommendation research, you might consider alternatives such as Last.fm 1K, Million Song Dataset, or other open datasets available through sites like Kaggle. :innocent:
  3. Contacting Spotify – If your use case is academic, sometimes reaching out via institutional email can help secure access for research collaborations.

Unfortunately, AIcrowd cannot share the dataset anymore, but I’d recommend starting with the Spotify Research team directly. If you’re also exploring modern tools for information retrieval, you might find it useful to look into what is Perplexity AI and how it compares with traditional search approaches in research.

Thank you !! :slightly_smiling_face:
