How exactly is phase 1 submission validation going to work?

Now that making use of client-side compute charged through residual time was deemed prohibited, I’m fairly certain that top 10 submissions on the leaderboard right now are noncompliant. Just looking at the corresponding timing breakdowns one can see that significant amounts of unregistered compute are either happening on the server, hidden in client’s “flopscope overhead”, or billed against the residual.

In this awkward situation, what is the compliance validation protocol going to be? Specifically:

  • Will there be any leniency to smaller-scale accounting optimizations? If so, what would the criteria be?
  • Will there be a prize rollover limit akin to that separate rules clause? (“Rollover is limited to the top ten (10) Teams in the Phase 1 final standings for that category; if no Team within the top ten (10) accepts the prize and completes the open-source release within the applicable window, the prize lapses and will not be awarded.”)
  • Will the validation be performed manually or automated?
