📢 Announcement: Important Updates to Challenge Rules!

:bangbang: Please note some updates and clarifications regarding the challenge rules. To continue your participation in the challenge and make a submission, please click the Participate button and accept the new rules.

Here’s what you need to know:

:lock: Code Release

To be eligible for the prizes, participants will have to release the training and inference code to their solutions under a permissive e.g. BSD, MIT, Apache, (not exclusive) or copyleft e.g. MPL, EPL, LGPL, AGPL, GPL (not exclusive) license from the OSI Approved Licenses https://opensource.org/licenses/. The submitted training and inference code is expected to be reproducible and should produce the same score on the leaderboard.

:inbox_tray: External Data Usage

In context of the MosquitoAlert data source, any publicly available MosquitoAlert data other than the datasets released as a part of the resources of this competition are not considered as valid external data sources, and Participants are not allowed to use the same in preparation of their solution for any of the phases of the competition. In instances where the Participant collects their own dataset for training purposes, it must be made available to other participants and organisers, under a license that permits use in this competition. A link to the dataset should be shared by 12th October, 2023.

:trophy: Prize

The winning team, leading the leaderboard, will receive a single laptop. Team members can distribute it as they prefer. Additionally, a travel grant of 2500 CHF will be awarded to cover travel, accommodation, and conference-related expenses.

:mag: Entry Usage

By submitting the Entry, you grant Organizers a non-exclusive, irrevocable, royalty-free, worldwide right and license to the mosquito-related data generated from the Entry. This data may be used in a report and possibly released as an open-source dataset. The Organizers are not obligated to use the Entry, even if it is selected as a winning Entry. Please refer to the rules for full details.

Does this mean we cannot fine-tune models trained on publicly available datasets?

The updated rules just say no public MosquitoAlert data may be used. This implies other data may still be used.

Hi @saidinesh_pola
Participants are allow to use Mosquito Alert data but only those datasets that are that are released as a part of the resources of this competition. Any other Mosquito Alert data is not considered valid.

As for fine tuning models trained on public available datasets - participants are allow to use it.

Can we use any other mosquito species and classification datasets (as long as they have OSI approved license) except for only “Mosquito Alert” dataset?

The external dataset use, other than Mosquito Alert dataset is allowed however you need to follow challenge rules regarding to the external dataset usage. You need to make sure that the external dataset license allow its non commercial or research use. You need to share that dataset by 12th October 2023. (See above " External Data Usage paragraph)
